When we began Queen City Farms, we knew that vertical farming had the potential to change the way we feed cities, but we didn’t want get a big facility. If you start too big, you’re more likely to make mistakes. So we decided to start with a smaller farm with the potential to scale.
We use a hydroponic system that consists of vertical grow towers made of food-grade PVC plastic. The growing medium is made from recycled water bottles. We choose to grow with this method to maximize the amount of greens production in a small amount of space. It is also very easy to handle and harvest from. Plus its great to look at!
In hydroponic towers, we can grow just about anything that grows above ground. We plan to grow herbs, greens and strawberries. Eventually we plan to experiment with other plants to understand the full potential of this growing system.
